Lesson Objectives
To understand why misconceptions occur and conflicts arise between different cultures Lesson Tasks 1. Watch the videos on this page about cultural misconceptions. 2. The Na/Za Game - Your teacher will explain the rules to you. The class will be divided into two groups representing two different tribes. Each tribe will learn how their tribe trades. You will have time to trade within your tribe, then the other tribe will come and observe you to work out how your tribe trades. They will then send 3 people to trade with your tribe. The trick is to learn the rules of the other tribe to ensure that your trade goes well. 3. Create a blog post answering the following questions:

Local and global perspectives on Cultural Issues
Learning Objectives
To understand how and why local and global perspectives on cultural issues can change and how we can research and analyse cultural issues Lesson Tasks 1. Watch the first video on the right --> and try to identify what culture, tradition and identity issues are raised by the video. 2. In groups you will each research an issue to do with tradition, culture and identity and produce a 4-5 minute presentation to give to the class at the end of the lesson. Each group will research an issue and make notes on: Global/Local Perspectives, Future Scenarios/Solutions and Personal Perspective. 3. After each presentation, think of two essay questions related to the presentation that you could investigate. Write your possible essay questions on this document with your name next to yours. 4. Homework - Choose one research/essay question from the presentations this week that you would like to research for your Unit 2 essay. Use this essay planning document (click here for PDF version) to begin thinking about your question/topic. Bring the completed document in class next lesson. |

For homework you had to create a research question for your end-of-unit assessment on tradition, culture and identity. Share this question with your peers and teacher. Do you need to refine it or is it ok? 2. Download these PowerPoints on Generating Good Research Questions and on Breaking Down Questions to help you work out a good question for your projects. 3. Begin researching your topic. For each individual assessment, you need to include the following sections:
